Seen Now Shared VIII

Oops...had a busy week. Haven't posted since last Seen Now Shared, but this week should be well worth the wait and there is plenty I am sharing with you. So get excited....but not too excited, that would be weird.

Here we go!

Go to this website. It is quite creative and fun, plus you get to fight a dragon (spoilers...oops.)

Dave Barnes tweeted about these pictures of people reacting at a Haunted House...quite funny.

Tyler Stanton wrote some good rules when it comes to weddings that we should all start to follow.

Vote for Clark! My friends put their baby in the running to be on the cover of Parents magazine. You should go vote for him.

Hmmm.....
It was only a matter of time before someone did this...

Being home for the Mizzou homecoming parade caused this to be a topic of conversation this Saturday.

He got Goosed........wordplay.

If Ron Swanson really was in Super Punch Out it would be impossible to win that game.

Fly away little guy. Fly away.

Time to get interactive. What do you like best about Seen Now Shared?

Seen Now Shared VII

Thursday is here. Time to share some things that I think you should check out from around the world wide web.

Gotta start you off with Tripp and Tyler's first video release from this years Catalyst conference. Looks like they delivered once again, and they are getting us in shape while doing so!

I want to know how they stop. That will be impressive.

This has been out for awhile. I don't watch too many Kanye West videos, but if you add Zach Galifianakis and farm equipment I will give it a go.

The Good Greatsby delivered some A+ reading material again this week when he let us know how he teaches his kids to smack talk. Not gonna lie, I learned a lot as well. (Also, while you are there, check this out. Paul gives me some great advise on my lack of smelling ability.)

He must not be a fan of awkward dancing.

Travel Day, and Go With me in my search to figure out my lack of smelling ability

Hello,

Today will be a long day. Got to work early and finish working early so we can get on the road to Missouri to see our families and friends. A solid 8 and a half hour drive. But today, I hope you will go check this out.

I asked The Good Greatsby for advice on why I do not have a sense of smell, and he answered!!! I really feel like I have figured some things out this morning. Please hop on over and check it out. Click here if you don't want to move your mouse back to the other link. Or if you like full linkage. look below! That link is made just for you.

Terrifying Turkey

I recently found the following video from a tweet by a local sports reporter. I at first though this might be entertaining to see, but as soon as I turned it on fear kicked in. I felt fear, compassion, and gratitude as I watched this video. I felt fear as being chased by any wild animal does not sound like much fun in any scenario. I felt compassion for the reporter who was being chased. This turkey seemed relentless in his approach. And finally I felt gratitude that I was not the person behind the camera.

The reason I am having such feelings about this video is because, I too know how it feels to be assaulted by a turkey. Before we get into that, please watch the following video, then I will recount my horror story.
(See the whole news story here.)

When I was a child we had numerous animals. We usually had about 2 or 3 dogs at a time, 2 or 3 cats, rabbits on occasion, we once had 2 ducks (story for another time when one died), we would also have up to about 200 chickens (I named one Rusty, when he died, Rusty 2, we got up for Rusty 9 I think before I gave that up.), we had a pig when I was really young, and one time my dad brought home a turkey. The turkey was to be a pet and live with chickens.

One day my sister and I had some friends over. I was probably 8 years old. We lived in the country and what you do in the country is play outside. We were all out playing in the yard and at the time the chickens and the turkey were out roaming the yard as well eating grass and what not, being your typical chickens. We hadn't had the turkey long, hence him having no name, I used to name all our animals. The turkey was a bit of a wild card you could say. He had not been around long, he was not a chicken, and I believe he thought he was the stuff, because he was bigger than everyone he lived in the coup with.
Even this turkey thinks he is the stuff. Arrogant birds!
While we were playing my friends and I must have gotten to close to the turkey. He started to strut. Us being 8 year old boys we were probably all scared to death, but had to pretend to be tough so we got our strut on as well. I got closer, but still just checking him out, not in his bubble at all. I put my hand out, most likely to pet* Tom the Turkey(which probably would have been his name if he didn't turn on me). When I reached out my hand that stupid turkey had had enough I guess.............

He bit me!

The dumb turkey bit me, right between my thumb and pointer finger. As soon as it happened I began to cry like a baby. The bite didn't actually hurt, but I was scared to death.....the turkey bit me! Turkeys bite? Who knew?

I ran into the house and told my mom, typical move. "Mom! The turkey bit me!" I screamed through my tears. I don't remember her exact response, but all I remember her deciding was that we would have to tell my dad that the turkey has got to go.

The turkey didn't last long after that.

I will tell you this. We had turkey for dinner a few nights later....apparently....I bite back!

Teach that bird to mess with me.

*False, I was definitely putting my hand out to taunt this bird.

Seen Now Shared VI

To Start off this weeks Seen now Shared I want to pay tribute to Steve Jobs who recently passed away. Here is his 2007 keynote address introducing the iPhone.

Saw this over at Church Mag. It involves Legos...that is all you really need to know.

Good intervew with NeedtoBreathe and RELEVANT Magazine you should check out here. Yeah, I just shoulded on you.

Really cool post at JoeRob.com right here about a woman who is deaf hearing her own voice for the first time.

Coolest kid ever?!? Very possible.

An Interview with the Evil Eye Baby

If you have not seen the above video before you must not be from here. This video is one of the best in all the interwebs. I assume the video was filmed around the early 2000's and it if were later, please don't ruin it for me. Anyway, I was wondering this morning where the Evil Eye Baby is now, how old he is, and how he deals with all his fame and fortunes. I have come to the decision it was 2001, so that makes this kid 11 years old and in 6th grade now. The following is what I believe it might look like if I were to interview him.

Me: Hello Evil Eye Baby, let's get this show on the road. How many autographs do you sign a day?
Evil Eye Baby: I don't know like 7 to 10. It depends on how much homework Mr. Bojangles assigns in 3rd period English.

Me: Do you care if I call you Evil Eye Baby, I don't know your real name.

EEB: I would care if you used questions marks, why are you too lazy to go back and change your last statement to a question?

Me: I will be asking the questions here?...dang it. Anyway, is it hard for you to walk down the street with all your fans you must have?

EEB: Yeah...it is really hard to do, but not because of the fans.....I lived on the fact I could give em the evil eye. People loved it so much I never had to learn to walk. I would just get requests to give the evil eye everywhere I went. People would carry me from one table to the next. I really bottomed out when I went to pre-school and other kids were able to make funny faces and walk. Obviously, their faces weren't as great as mine.

Me:Obviously...

EEB: But I was just so far behind all the others. I finally learned to walk in 2nd grade. I quit giving the evil eye once I could walk, and people were not as interested some random 2nd grade kid who could barely walk.

Me:.....

EEB:Hello?!?

Me:Oh...yeah...rough stuff. I think I really only have one more question for you...could you...give em the evil eye???
EEB:......No!
Me: Fine....I will just go watch the video again...after posting this picture of you.

I see that this still image says March 31, 2007....but still...please don't ruin it for me. It would be more fun to interview a 4 year old though....maybe some other time.

Question to my reader(s)? What is your favorite old school video or internet classic out there on the information super highway?

Quick Thoughts

  1. I like to hoard the colorful paperclips and use the regular silver ones on things that I give to others....is that normal?
  2. Miriam started classes once again yesterday, after thinking about her telling me about them and how excited she is. All I can think now is how her dad once told me that the longer you go to school the more you get to take classes you actually care about.
  3. Of course, once we buy cantaloupe this happens.
  4. Apparently I have a real life arch nemesis at my work, sorry Ashton, you might take a back seat for awhile.
  5. My new arch nemesis doesn't know I know she sees me as an arch nemesis, still trying to figure out how I will play it with that info. (If you follow me on Twitter, don't worry. It is not Bev.)
  6. Said it before and will say it again. "The Reckoning" by Needtobreathe is soooo good. They continue to impress.
  7. If you have not seen it yet you need to see Guy on a Buffalo. (Make sure you see episode 2 as well.)
  8. See you at the pole was this morning I believe. Saw a great post about it that will make it into Seen Now Shared tomorrow.
  9. Should have said this eight thoughts ago but, who ever decided that 1 is the loneliest number? Maybe he is just a loner...or he is probably a real jerk being the 1st prime number and all, so he is lonely. Shouldn't have been a jerk #1.
  10. The Oregon Trail app is free right now. If you know anyone with an iAnything you need to make them aware. What a great game from elementary school. I am just waiting for one of my family members to die of dysentery!!!
  11. Time for lunch.
  12. If you are too lazy to click on the link for Guy on a Buffalo here it is. Just watch it and laugh, but then watch episode 2 and wait with me for episode 3.

Good Morning, just wondering about creativity today. If you have the time please text in answering the question: How do you work on your creativity? Just text to the number 87884 and add @wif77513 to the beginning of the message. If you text it should give you a random anonymous name...which makes it all worth it. 1. Good Championship Event that I might could win someday.

2. Not so good pass that I might have made before.

3.Good use of water.

4. Not So good use of stilts.

5. Good ideas to motivate yourself. (Unless you are allergic to bees....or even better if you are?)

6. Great Creativity. Impressed by the Creative Arts team at Woodcrest Chapel once again.

Why America?

I heard that the premiere of Two and a half Men had 28 millions viewers! Which I find is ridiculous...out of those 28 millions I would assume I knew at least one, but no one I know watches that show. How are there so many people out there watching this trash? (It may be due to my new arch nemesis Ashton Kutcher joining the show....well played Ashton, you win this round.) But in reality I find it sad that the show gets 28 millions viewers with how terrible it is. My favorite show Parks and Recreation apparently only gets 6 millions viewers (source Wikipedia, the only place with real facts!).

Knowing these statistics I have just one question.

WHY AMERICA!!!???!

Why does such a terrible show get those kinds of ratings. I heard it is up there with an American Idol premiere in terms on ratings.....HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN!?!? (Lots of yelling today, or maybe my music is too loud, so I feel I have to shout.)

I saw that lots of CBS shows get high ratings....to which I wonder again, how come I do not know a single one their viewers?

Anyway, let's change the course here and talk about how excited I am for the season premiere of Parks and Rec tomorrow night.

What a great cast.

I am excited to see where the show goes this season. If you do not watch the show, you should. It is hilariously funny, each character brings their own uniqueness to the show and they mesh very well together. Every show usually has a character or a few that brings it down....not Parks and Rec, even their seldom used characters add to the show.

The only negative might be with so many characters they, the less Andy Dwyer fun there is. Andy started the show with two broken legs falling into "the pit" which Leslie (Amy Poehler) made her goal to fill in in season one of the show.

We are about to start season four of Parks and Rec, and I hope it continues for many seasons hereafter as long as they keep up with their comedic gold they have been handing out.

I would hope you might check out Parks and Rec tomorrow night and every week from until it is over.

I leave you with Ron Swanson's Pyramid of Greatness he shared with us when he was coaching a children's basketball team, which I will use in my coaching opportunities from here on out.

Quick Thoughts

  • Lots of great musicians releasing new albums lately. Ben Rector last week, and now Gungor and NeedtoBreathe this week. Not enough music budget for me right now.
  • Knox Mccoy didn't give us our Monday Morning Meatloaf today....could make for a long week without it.
  • Mizzou plays at Oklahoma this week. I feel like Mizzou really got the short end of the stick with this one year of scheduling we will have in the Big 12 minus 2 minus 1.
  • With Pitt and Syracuse gone to the ACC, The Big 12 should go after TCU, Louisville, and Cincinatti to replace nebraska, Colorado, and A&M. Would make sense geographically and 3 decent teams in football, and 2 in basketball. Too bad this realignment has nothing to do with geography and rivalries though. And too bad the Big 12 is done for for realz now. See ya Texas, OU, Okie St, and Tech apparently.
  • I need to get my mom on the internet so I can double my amount of blog readers. (Shout out to my wife, Miriam for being my avid reader!!!)
  • Gonna be a busy week work wise. Got lots of two job days this week, hopefully I stay sane, and keep up with the dishes, my arch nemesis.
  • I asked Tyler Tarver who should be my new arch nemesis as I was in need of one. He went with Ashton Kutcher and girls sticking their tongues out in photos. Kutcher I can make happen. But dirty dishes might beat out girls sticking their tongues out for now.
  • Ashton Kutcher could be a great arch nemesis, but he might be making it too easy for me with his recent look (see below) and joining bad sitcoms.
  • We are gonna make our 1st chili of the season this week. Kind of excited about it.
  • Also not too excited because it means it snows soon here. We have had a couple overnights with frost already.
  • I am gonna try to make Seen Now Shared a weekly post on Thursday's. Could be hard when I find some good stuff. I already have enough for this week.
  • Speaking of posts, trying to think of more stuff with good content to distract myself with. I just love quick posts too much...like this one.
Kutcher!!!! At least make it difficult for me.

Seen Now Shared III

1. Saw a Friend post this video. I will most definitely be using these techniques in a few years.

2. I wish I had known about this website a few years ago. Could be very useful for those in youth ministry.

3. If only I had an iPhone for one of these, but not this.

4. Tyler Tarver continues to bring the funny.

5.I am contemplating what to say to my 18 year old self to submit to this new website Dear18me.com

6.And finally, I will leave you with the new music video from NeedtoBreathe -"Slumber"

Tuesday, September 13, 2011

Quick Thoughts

  • Parks and Rec season 2 is ready for me at the library. Such a great show, each character is so unique and adds value to the show.
  • Why is there so much candy in this office I work at, I can only hold off the temptation so long?
  • Ben Rector's new album came out today. I have yet to hear it, but I bet it will be a gift to my ears when I do.
  • Going back to thought 2. Snickers Peanut Butter is really good.
  • First week of Fantasy Football is over. I won in both my leagues.....but do no expect much out of either team this season.
  • I like to think like that about Fantasy Football. I have no real control over how my teams perform. I can just hope.
  • Just got free pizza for lunch. Out of the blue. That makes for a good day.
  • And for some reason I am having another Snickers Peanut Butter.
  • Google Reader is great. I don't have to check multiple sites anymore, just go see who has updated with my Google Reader. (Thanks Mim...even though I kind of trash talked it at the beginning.)
  • Speaking of Google Reader, I will leave you with this gem from Awkward Family photos, which was a great subscription choice for myself.

Life in Retail

I work part time in a retail store. Luckily I do not work in clothes or something, I work in the meat department. Here are some things I have encountered/learned in my adventures.

Working in retail I have learned you are never doing just one thing. You have to be ready for all sorts of things, for instance, the last time I worked I was scheduled for the meat department, but saw time cashiering, working in the pharmacy, helping produce, working frozen food for grocery, and pushing carts in from outside, all while making 2 bales in a five hour shift. A 5 hour shift where I could have easily left early by finishing my area early too.

Anyway, feels like too much talking myself up....that is not what this is about. This is about encounters like Knox Mccoy mentioned here. (I really loved his blog post about the human grenades you encounter at the grocery store, because of how true it is. I encourage you to go check it out if you have not already.)

One of my favorite encounters that I get all the time while working goes something like this:

Me: Can I help you find anything?
Customer: Yes
Me:(waiting for them to ask about a product they can't find.)
Customer: (either walking away or looking at me strangely.)
Me: (walking away realizing they didn't listen to what I said and will just reply "yes" no matter what I say.)

After having this encounter most every time I work, my new plan is to start asking randomness. My next shot will be "Can I help you buy me something?" That way when they say "yes", I will quickly throw some Filet Mignons in their cart for a delicious steak dinner for myself and my wife.

Alright, that is part of my life spent in retail for now. Please feel free to stop by and see me when I work so I can talk you into buying something...if I made commission I would have like $2.53 or something by now...

Seen Now Shared 2

Welcome to the 2nd installment of Seen Now Shared, where I share things I have recently seen with you, my reader. And of course by reader, I mean my wife, at this point I know at least she reads this stuff, but mainly because I make her. Maybe it is time I force some others to come check this out.

Anyway, here is some stuff I have seen.

I have logged this info into my mind in case I ever watch someone's pets again.

Saw this post "20 texting phrasing every parent must know." It has some graphic content, but something anyone who works with youth should know about.
This is also something that everyone who works with youth should know about.

While we are still on the youth workers awareness topics.

I bet they are awesome Grandparents...
Their dolls scare me.
This video is quite clever and a sweet prank I want to try out sometime.

The 3rd Best State Fair

May look like a lot of people, but still rather easy to get around
We went to the Minnesota state fair yesterday. I was told it is the 3rd best state fair behind Texas and Iowa. How Iowa? Who knows...

It was an incredible day weather wise, with a high in the 70's, and not a very crowded time, at least that is how it felt. It may have over a million people each day, but the fair has enough space to keep you from feeling like sardines.

I would have loved to have more time Minnesota's great get together, but my few hours there were quite fun. They included deep fried snickers, cheese curds, a MN wild rice burger, free samples, lots of animals, and great people watching.
Deep Fried Snickers/Instant Cavity...worth it.

The MN State fair is all about the food...and mostly about that food being on a stick. Let's discuss that food,. the Deep Fried snickers was quite delicious. I may have felt cavities occur as soon as I took my first bite, but the taste was well worth it.
Cheese Curds

We were also told that we had to try the cheese curds at the fair 1st. I am glad we did, they were good. No deep fried candy bar good, but quite tasty.

The MN wild rice infused burger was a diving moment as we saw both our pastors at the fair, and both suggested I give it a try. I am glad I did, it was very good. The rice cooked into the meat was a good flavor and their caramelized onions worked very well on it as well.
Butter sculpture...

Please click this link to read about the people who make butter sculptures. Not sure which is more weird, the butter sculptures or the pageant winners that have them make butter sculptures of themselves.

Sadly Minnesota's largest pig had already gone home as it was the last day of the fair. And to me, that is not fair....get it?

Anyway, we will be going again next year. Next time I want more food on sticks. Maybe I will have some walleye, alligator, or lobster on a stick next year.

13 Thoughts

Here are some thoughts running through my head...

  1. NCAA conference realignment is so frustrating...it is all about money. NCAA athletics should be about rivalries, which we are gonna lose with all these new conferences.
  2. Why don't college students understand reserved parking? Ticket after ticket doesn't stop them either.
  3. Fantasy Football starts soon, I have grown tired of the coming up with hilarious team names. I am now sticking with the same team name...at least until I come up with something funny.
  4. The wife and I wore our "MIZ" & "ZOU" shirts yesterday. We may be 500 miles away, but I will still be rocking black and gold on gamedays.
  5. These quick thoughts seems to have a football theme.
  6. Football season did just begin.
  7. This week was really long with too many 8:00 a.m to 9:30 p.m. work days.
  8. I have been trying to decide lately if I want to start blogging more regularly. It mostly comes down to if I believe I have anything to say that people will want to read.
  9. Tyler Tarver's blog is a main reason I want to blog. If I can be 1/8th as funny as him maybe I could keep it up.
  10. Tyler Tarver did write a book...I want to read it.
  11. Went to a splash park this week. Not a big theme park. A park with fountains and buckets and such. Was a pretty sweet park.
  12. Is how many are in a dozen.
  13. It is cold here today....which means snow soon. I expect snow within a week, just so I am not upset when it happens sooner than I want.

Seen now Shared

This is stuff I have seen...now I share it with you in case you missed it.
Looks Delicious

Saw this open letter to Tim Riggins, now you should too.

I hope to one day accomplish such an incredible high five.

I think I could pull off being the inspirational offering taker guy.
At least there is still no need to worry about putting out fires.

Also. check out human-grenades-you-encounter-at-grocery-store.

Life.

Currently Playing

These are the songs I most look forward to hearing on my Spotify playlists....in no particular order.

"Lifeline"  by Andrew Ripp. Andrew Ripp can be heard coming from my office a lot the past few days.

"Comeback Kid (That's my Dog)",  by Brett Dennen. This song just makes me happy.

"Slumber", by NeedtoBreathe. While Andrew Ripp might be popular in my office this week. NeedtoBreathe can be heard every week, and everyday of the week.

"Faster", by Matt Nathanson. Glad I added some Matt Nathanson to my playlist. Though never a favorite, I do like some of his jams.

"Keep Your Head Up", by Andy Grammer. Andy Grammer's ad on spotify worked on me. I am now giving him a listen and liking what I hear.

"Beautiful Things", by Gungor. Gungor is on fire right now. Love this song, and really coming to like this band.
What are you listening to currently?

Bet you cannot name them all

This is messing with my brain.
Found this little nugget today on the information super highway, and now I cannot stop watching it.

I can't look away. When it speeds up I get dizzy.

Who all do you see there? I bet you cannot name them all!

    Life without a Sense fo Smell...updated 8/4/11

When you have no sense of smell people ask you a lot of questions and make a lot of comments.
Starting now those questions/comments will be documented. (Wish I had started this years ago.)

    1. You can't smell popcorn?
    2. Can you taste?
    3. Walk out here, you will be able to smell this. (Nope...still can't.)
    4. You can't smell flowers?
    5. Smell this.....oh yeah....sorry. (It's ok, sometimes I just pretend to smell it to avoid this.)
    6. You're an %*^#*^$^$ liar. (one of my favorite reactions)
    7. What does this smell like? (umm...just told you, I don't have that ability....but...roses, right?)

    More to come...

    Band Names

As I have been trying out Spotify at work recently I have been entertained by finding related artists to ones I listen to. I like to see how far away I can get from the original band/artist. Today I stumbled upon some incredibly hilarious band names.*

First off let's start with the band that started it all for me when I saw their name on my list of related artists.

    1. The Meat Puppets
      • Wow! What a name for a band...but no words can describe their group photo to the right. (Do note the hair...you can tell they are from the 80's.)
    2. The Afghan Whigs
      • Not as exciting as The Meat Puppets, but still random enough that you look twice and wonder. Disappointing when you find out no band members wear afghan whigs though...
    3. Super Furry Animals
      •  Another nice band name that catches the eye. The disappointment. Only one of the band members looks furry

That wraps up my 1st installment of Band Names. I hope we can all meet again real soon.

*Let it be noted, these bands may have catchy names, but not catchy enough that I actually listened to their music...maybe sometime soon I can set aside some time to rock out to The Meat Puppets.

    Ordinary Everyday Activities

Time to tell how I do ordinary everyday activities.

    Today's Topic
    The Dishes

We live in Seminary housing so we do not have a dishwasher......well, I do not, Miriam does. I go old school on dishes and wash by hand. It is pretty simple, just use the brush and dish soap and wash that nasty off there. Ok...fun post right...you can pretty much be done reading now....or continue on if you want more pointless rambling on uninteresting activities.

I am not a fan of doing the dishes, but I will say this humbly....I am a machine at them after a little over 2 years. Each day while Miriam and I are preparing dinner I am in there washing dishes as we cook. The more I can do before we eat the less I have to do later. I wash with speed and precision, and if you dare be a dish that touched raw meat or chicken you better look out. You are about to get rinsed on by others, washed, rewashed, rewashed, and dominated by me, because I am not getting no salmonella.

But what happens every time we do the dishes.....I finish up feel good about what I just accomplished, but when I turn around....there are always more on the stove, ALWAYS! It is the most frustrating feeling in the world.

Being in Seminary housing we have limited (bolded for emphasis! said for extra emphasis) counter space. I don't know if you read that last sentence....our counter space is very limited. I say this because if you set a dish on the small counter by the sink...it will be washed by me. It is a solid source of frustration as I often wash something still in use because it got set on my pre-wash counter. Don't you dare set something there....it will be washed.

Welp....there you have it...that is how dishes are done. Wasn't that fun (unintentional rhyme)? Don't shoot me with a gun (intentional). I hope my team won (unnecessary).

Life Without a Sense of Smell

When you have no sense of smell people ask you a lot of questions and make a lot of comments.
Starting now those questions/comments will be documented. (Wish I had started this years ago.)

    1. You can't smell popcorn?
    2. Can you taste?
    3. Walk out here, you will be able to smell this. (Nope...still can't.)
    4. You can't smell flowers?
    5. Smell this.....oh yeah....sorry. (It's ok, sometimes I just pretend to smell it to avoid this.)

      More to come...

        Great New Show.

If this show happens, I would be less annoyed about the NFL lock out.

I would watch this. No question.
